Focus Daily: LKS Łódź and its crumbling stadium Continuing
our new daily feature using photos fron our images galleries, today we look at the crumbling LKS Stadium
home to Polish side LKS Łódź

Łódź
is the third largest city in Poland and located in the central part
of the European country, 84 miles south west of Warsaw. Home to
around 750,000 people it is the capital of the Łódź Voivodeship
and is home to two sides ŁKS Łódź (Łódzki Klub Sportowy) and
Widzew Lodz.

With
Euro 2012 being a joint event held in Poland/Ukraine the local city
council hoped to construct a brand new stadium on the site of the
current LKS soccer stadium. It was originally intended to be
completed in time for Euro 2012.

With
a UEFA confirmation being made in December 2009 that Ukraine would be
a host for the event the opportunity for Lodz to be a host city has
disappeared. It was hoped that the possible failure of the Ukraine
to be ready on time would allow Lodz to step in but alas the
crumbling façade of the stadium remains and the work has yet to
begin on a new stadium.

A
new stadium is hoped to one day become a reality for LKS Lodz but due
to a close inner city rivalry with Widzew Lodz, Widzew have ruled out
using the new stadium and instead intend to rebuild their own Widzewa
stadium. This stadium
is currently used mostly for football matches and has a capacity of
9,892 people. Widzew Łódź hope to create a new 19,100 seat
stadium for their own use. Tomorrow: The Stadium Seat
