About Us

The website was the idea of current editor Damon Main who currently lives in Scotland.  A graduate of both Aberdeen University and Strathclyde University Graduate Business School his main areas of interest are European club football, the football stadium and fan culture.  His articles and images have appeared in numerous online and print publications with 25 years of football watching around the world giving him a good insight into the game.

In recent years the traditional football fan produced ‘fanzine’ has been complemented and overtaken by the emergence of the online ‘webzine’.  One of the main reasons behind this drive has been the impact and reach of the internet and adjoining tools such as Facebook and Twitter.  Together these have had a huge impact on the previously dominant newspaper industry bringing to the world of football writing a new generation of new media writing.

Voices of Football are all about Match reports, live match casts, videos, stadium analysis and football destination analysis from around the footballing world.   In essence we give you an integrated online modern insight into football; so much more than the simple newspaper article.  

The New Site

Welcome to the new look Voices in Football website!  The idea for the website originated in 2008 and since then we have went from strength to strength.   The new sleeker site builds on the original format but takes our concept into a more easy to use framework with new more detailed current match reports and articles outlining all the key information from games as well as a match report archive.

The destinations area of the website builds on the previous format by offering key insights into the world’s best known and also lesser known football destinations.  For each destination there is also the opportunity to download an adjoining colourful pdf ‘terrace destination guide’ which outlines all the essential rough guide information you will need to make the best of a trip.

New to the website is Stadium Focus the definite guide to football stadiums.   Without its amphitheatre Rome would not have its foremost iconic symbol; similarly without the stadium fans do not have the physical space to create, engage and support.   For most fans walking into stadium is either a stairway to heaven or entering the lion’s den.  Stadium Focus gives you the lowdown on stadiums from the locations, the turnstiles to pitch measurements whether the grounds are new, existing, partially in existence or no longer around.

The main new exciting feature at voicesinfootball.com is the Twitter Live Match Cast Zone.  This feature allows you to connect into a live Twitter match cast feed from a football match we are reporting live from.  The match cast tells you about what is occuring on the terraces as well as the pitch.  Look out also for the video VIF TV zone which has interviews, fans displays and match clip highlights.

The key behaviours of Voices in Football are Fanaticism, Colour, Passion and Originality (F.C.P.O).    All true fans have a passion or commitment to a team or a cause to promote but this website aims to be independent of any club or nationality and neither do we have political affiliations.  A variety of political strategies, cultural issues, social trends and economic scenarios impact on the game and likewise these may be discussed within the sphere of the site. 

But this will only be done as a means of analysing the impact on the wider game and not through any political bias. Therefore, the aim is in expressing and analysing the extreme rivalry, hatred and also friendships that exist in football and to do this alongside our key football ethos, strategy and site behaviours.”
