BFC Dynamo Berlin v Aberdeen
European Cup
October 3rd 1984
Friedrich Jahn Ludwig Sportpark

As Italian referee Luigi Agnolin blew the final whistle after extra time both sides were locked at 3 goals each. A penalty shoot out ensued which eventually would see Dynamo Berlin win through and progress at the expense of the Scottish champions.

The game was played on a cold October evening in the former GDR. The Friedrick Ludwig Jahn Sportpark where the game was played still stands in the present day Prenzlauer Berg district of Berlin neat where the Berlin wall once stood. The ground is named after the father of gymnastics.

A crowd of 20,000 East Berliners saw Andreas Thom give BFC the lead only for Aberdeen winger Iam Angus to level. With only five minutes left Rainer Ernst levelled the tie and extra time ensued which would eventually see Aberdeen exit the tournament.
